We haven't even started yet....

but I'll begin here, just because this IS the beginning:

The original thought process began sometime in 2005. We, the recently retired six, would pick a vacation destination every other year. This was the beginning of the now infamous BFS Vacations.

Alaska, 2006:

Six adults wedged themselves into a van, with luggage to spare and traveled some of the length and breadth of Alaska. From Anchorage to Valdez to a place called Tok we saw all there was to see. Tok took us to Chicken and onto the gold rush capital of Dawson (crossing the Canadian border at the Top of the World) and then onto the port of Skagway. We're not done yet! Skagway back to Tok and onto Fairbanks. A wonderful stop at Denali, and then back to Anchorage. Best guess! 2,175 miles over a two week period.

Europe, 2008:

The original six dropped to four. So much was going on in the lives of the "B" portion of BFS Vacations that they decide to fore go this trip. But we will always be known as the original BFS Vacations regardless of who is there!

This time we chose a week in Amsterdam, mostly because we could hop a direct flight in and out with little or no hassle, and a week in Scotland. Tulips and haggis; bicycles and right hand drive; beer and single malt; sea level and rocky crags, the differences couldn't have been more exaggerated, and yet we had a wonderful time in both places - probably because of that. Vive la difference!!!!

Now is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of their travel agent. Just call on BFS Vacations for all of your destination locations.

Fall 2010: The Plan

We, at BFS Vacations, have chosen for you a most interesting, inventive, and adventurous itinerary.

We start with five days in Switzerland and then, traveling by train we seek the pleasures and sights of northern Italy. Here is how our itinerary now stands:

Fly into Zurich airport and check into the Hotel Continental, located in the downtown section of Zurich. There is much to see after check in, but be certain not to suffer from that all too common eye disease ISSMICRIA - I Saw So Much I Can't Remember It All.

There is more to see of Switzerland than just Zurich, so we've laid out some day trips you'll find amusing. First a rail journey to that other wonderful city on a lake, Geneva where you'll find the Flower Clock, the Jet d'Eau, and St. Peter's Cathedral.

For old time sake, we also recommend a day trip to the city of Fribourg.

On the sixth day of our journey's we hop the train out of Zurich and head for Como Italy. We'll trade in the train for some local mass transit (the bus) and head for Menaggio, where we'll be checking in at the Hotel Garni Corona right on Lake Como. While there we'll take in some local color (red or white), hop on the ferry for a trip on and about the lake, visiting many of the villas along the way.

The ninth day of our excursion begins with the bus journey back to Como rail station heading for the Tuscan cultural center - Firenze. The Hotel Varasi will be our base for four full days, taking in all the charms and delights this ancient Italian city has to offer.

The twelfth day begins with the train from Firenze to Venezia, the city of canals. We'll check into the Hotel Rossi, and purposely find the nearest gondola rental, as this is the only mandated event thus far voiced by our clients.

Finally, the fifteenth day begins our journey home. We find our way back to Zurich, by train, checking into the Hotel Continental for our final night as an mid morning flight home the next day awaits our departure.

From time to time, during our travels, I'll check back into this blog updating with pictures, but no circles and arrows, and a paragraph of explanation.
